Spotlight on Zac Stevenson
What new things have you learned about yourself in college?
One of the biggest things I have learned about myself is that I am actually capable of time management! Until college, I was the type of person that would put things off until the last possible minute, and then stay up all night doing it when it was due. Now that I work over 25 hours per week, on top of going to school, that is not an option. I’ve also learned how much it helps to have a support system of friends and family, instead of trying to do everything on your own.
What is your major at Texas A&M?
Please tell us some of your interest or hobbies.
I love books. I used to read all the time. Since I don’t have much time to read conventional books, I listen to audiobooks everywhere I go. I also love to play video games, basketball, hang out with friends, and, of course, what college student doesn’t love naps?
What is your favorite food?
Deep dish BBQ chicken pizza with mushrooms and bell peppers.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully married, and working a successful job, somewhere that isn’t even remotely cold. I’d like to have or hopefully soon be having children. I’d love to still have the same cool sports car I have now, or maybe even a nicer one!
How has the Angela Stanford Foundation Scholarship helped you?
With the help of the Angela Stanford Foundation Scholarship, my mom and I have been able to get through college without collecting any student debt! That is such a rarity in today’s world, and I am so thankful for it.
How has cancer affected you and your family?
When I was 15 years old, my dad passed away because of illnesses caused by multiple myeloma. It was such a blow to my family, and it was very hard to get through it. However, the loss of such an important figure in our life has brought my family even closer than ever before, and it has made all of us stronger.
Do you have a favorite sporting team (baseball, football, basketball, etc…) If so why do you choose to root for them?
I am a Chicago Bulls fan, 100%. My mom grew up in Chicago, before moving to Texas, and her family still lives there. And, of course, I love the Aggies. The football games in the fall are some of my favorite things about attending Texas A&M.
When you have 30 minutes of free time how do you pass the time?
Free time? Between work and school, free time is not a common occurrence. If I do find myself with a bit of free time, I would probably try to either catch up on sleep or catch up on Netflix shows!
Do you have any special talents?
I can make the creepy clicking noise from Predator, exactly like the Predator himself!
If you could travel to any one place for a day where would it be? Why?
The international space station. The things that they do up there are incredible, and I can’t imagine a better view.
What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?
Snorkeling or even scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef, skydiving, and going whale watching.
What store would you like to max out your credit card?
I would love to buy lots of expensive and unnecessarily fancy things from Best Buy.
If you had 10 minutes on a popular TV talk show, what would you want to talk about?
I don’t really know anything specific that I’d like to talk about, but I would love to be on a show that I could debate with someone famous about something. I did speech and debate in high school and love to argue (just ask my girlfriend!), and I think that would be a lot of fun!
Maroon, of course.
What type of music do you enjoy listening to?
For most of my life my answer would have been “Anything but country,” but it has started to kind of grow on me. A little bit. Sometimes. I have kind of been on a 2000’s rap/hip hop trend lately.
Coke or Pepsi?
I don’t particularly like Coke or Pepsi, but I do like Sprite much more than Sierra Mist, so I guess I would have to go with Coke Products.
Chocolate or Vanilla?
Vanilla. One thing that never ceases to amaze people about me is that I don’t like chocolate. Or brownies, or chocolate cake, or chocolate milk, for that matter. No I’m not an alien.
If you could have dinner with 3 people dead or alive who would you choose?
If I could pick 3 meals with my dad, I would. Otherwise I would have to pick my dad, Kevin Hart, and Gandalf. You know, from Lord of the Rings.
Have you ever attended an LPGA Tour event?
No I haven’t!
What is your definition of greatness?
Wow, that is a hard question! I guess greatness, to me, is achieved by doing something that causes people to smile when they think of or remember you.
What is your favorite restaurant in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area?
It isn’t really specific to the DFW area, but I love Blue Fish!
Do you have any pets?
I don’t currently have any pets, but I grew up with three of them! Zoey - a border collie, Maggie - a dachshund, and Sophie - a black cat. (Don’t tell Zoey or Maggie, but Sophie is my favorite)
What is your favorite movie? Favorite book?
Remember the titans is definitely my favorite movie. I’m not sure I could pick just one book that would be my favorite. I love nerdy books, with magic, knights, dragons, and all of that, so pretty much anything of that genre! I love the Wheel of Time series, and the Legacy of Drizzt.
If you could pick a profession what would you choose?
As dorky as it seems, I would LOVE to be smart enough to be a physicist. After my senior year of high school, I got to visit CERN in Switzerland, and it was incredible. It would be amazing to be able to work there.
